The goal of the series is to provide you with information that will allow you to make this holiday season the healthiest ever! Check back every Monday and Thursday in the coming weeks for brand new, original content.

I'm excited today to introduce you to my friend and fellow chemical-free cleaning enthusiast, Rachel Woods. Rachel is a stay-at-home mom to two boys, ages 4 and 2.5, and she works to spread the word about healthy home cleaning as an independent consultant for Norwex.

Welcome, Rachel - and thank you so much for joining this series! So - for those of us who aren't that familiar with this concept, what exactly is 'chemical-free cleaning?'

Chemical-free cleaning means using natural and eco-friendly materials to clean. For this post, we're discussing cleaning our homes, but "chemical-free cleaning" can also apply to skin care.

Why should we care about chemicals in cleaning products?

Your skin is your largest organ. When chemicals touch your skin they are quickly absorbed into your body. The same goes for spraying chemicals into the air ... we inhale them, thus breathing them into our body.  Many leading cleaners contain harmful chemicals that can cause lasting damage to our bodies and increase the risk of certain cancers and diseases.

Is it really possible to clean without using tons of chemical products?

Yes! Thankfully, it is possible to clean without using chemicals. I use a natural cleaning line, Norwex, which uses water and microfiber infused with silver (a natural anti-bacteriant) to clean.

Is it going to take me a lot more time to clean without chemicals?

Actually, using Norwex saves time and money. No more searching for paper towels and the right product to use. Simply grab an enviro cloth or mop, add water, and start cleaning!

What is Norwex, as a company, all about?

Norwex is all about improving the quality of life by radically reducing chemicals in the home.
"The Norwex Solution"is:
- SAVE Your Health : Norwex products help you avoid the toxins in traditional cleaning products
- SAVE Time : Norwex products decrease cleaning time by up to 75%
- SAVE Money : an average household spends $600-$800 a year on chemical cleaning products and supplies  by using Norwex products, you can realize up to 90% savings
- SAVE the Environment : safer, more natural indredients help protect and sustain our environment

What are your favorite chemical-free cleaning products that you use most often, especially around the busy holiday season?

I love this question! I have many favorites and all for varying reasons. I love the EnviroCloth! It's my "go to" cleaner. I use it on granite counter tops, car seats, tables, base boards, stainless steel appliances etc I use it almost everywhere to clean.

If I had to choose one Norwex product that I couldn't live without it would be the mop system. I use it daily on all hard surfaces in my home. It cleans using micro fiber pads that are removable and washable, avoiding chemicals and cistron refill pads. My favorite part about the mop though, is the adjustable handle! I'm 5"3 and it adjusts to fit my height, it also adjusts so my 6"2 husband can mop as well without hunching over.

The Window Cloth is another one of my favorite items. I use the EnviroCloth wet to clean my windows, then polish them with the Window Cloth, which leaves my windows clean with no streaks or chemical residue.

Lastly, I also love the Dusting Mitt. I used to dust with a wipe containing chemicals, which left behind a residue on my wood, leading to more dust sticking to the residue. The dust mitt is made of microfiber and leaves no residue behind, leaving my furniture shiny and clean.

What should we know before we invest in chemical-free cleaning products?

I believe we have been conditioned to think that somewhere or something is clean if there is a "clean" smell, when in fact, this is false. Having a house full of chemicals does not equate to clean, it equates to toxic. I love cleaning my house and having no chemical scents lingering in my house for my family to inhale.

Investing in chemical free products may seem radical or costly up front, but in the long run it will save you both time and money. It will also provide you with peace of mind. You'll know your family members are not being exposed to harmful chemicals repeatedly. In addition, Norwex's microfiber does come with a 2-year warranty if cared for correctly.

What's the best way to start making the transition from chemical cleaners to chemical-free products?

Norwex offers many amazing cleaning products to help with cleaning at any level. To begin, I recommend starting with the "Household Plus Package." The package contains an EnviroCloth, Window Cloth, Dusting Mitt, and EnviroWand. This package is great because it contains everything you need for everyday cleaning such as, dusting, cleaning mirrors, wiping off counters etc... I would then look at adding more specific items such as the cleaning paste, toilet brush, and descaler in order to handle more of a monthly "deep cleaning."

If anyone is interested in ditching the chemicals and learning more about how to clean chemically free, contact Rachel by email at or visit her website at Rachel has graciously agreed to offer all of my readers a discount on Norwex products, so please don't miss out on that opportunity :)
